A large air separation unit in West Africa was officially put into operation in late June
On June 25, 2026, a 70 ton daily air separation unit located in the satellite town of Lagos, Nigeria, was officially put into operation. The project has an investment of over 10 billion naira (based on the exchange rate at the time) and took about three years from launch to completion. With the commissioning of the device, the total production capacity of the operator's air separation products has increased to 110 tons per day, becoming one of the largest industrial gas production capacities in Nigeria. This device mainly produces oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and specialty gases, which are supplied to industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, energy, and food processing in Nigeria.
According to the management of the operator at the commissioning ceremony, this expansion is based on a forward-looking judgment of the growth prospects of Nigeria's industrial and medical sectors, and belongs to an investment layout that is "ahead of demand". The company has been operating in Nigeria for over 20 years. Officials from the Lagos state government and federal senators in Nigeria attended the commissioning ceremony.
During the same period, there have also been new developments in the field of carbon dioxide recovery. A French industrial gas company has put into operation an industrial grade carbon dioxide capture pilot plant at a cement manufacturer's carbon capture demonstration facility located in Martel Tolosan, France. The device adopts low-temperature carbon capture technology, with a designed processing capacity of 3000 standard cubic meters of flue gas per hour and a carbon dioxide recovery rate of over 95%. The pilot facility can capture 5 to 30 tons of carbon dioxide per day, and the expected scale of the full-scale industrial unit is about 100 times that of the pilot plant. The cement industry accounts for approximately 7% of global carbon dioxide emissions.
In addition, the air separation unit of a large-scale coal chemical project in China also made key progress in early June - the first set of 100000 standard cubic meters/hour air separation unit cold box was capped. The total height of the cold box is 60 meters, and the equipment and pipelines inside the tower need to operate for a long time under low-temperature conditions of minus 196 degrees Celsius.
